Akiko and Ken Freeman certainly got the best out of the 2018 vintage. Their wines are pure and beautifully delineated throughout the range. The Pinots can be easily divided between Russian River and Sonoma Coast bottlings, which provides a terrific opportunity to glean more insight as to the characteristics of these two appellations. In tasting, the Freeman wines nicely balance fruit intensity with savoriness, qualities that are especially well defined in 2018. The 2018s were all bottled before the following vintage, with the exception of the Yu-ki Estate Pinot, which is bottled with 14 months of barrel age.
