As Michel Tardieu is no longer involved in any way with Dominique Laurent, as of the 2010 vintage this operation will be called "Familie Tardieu." Tardieu's son Bastien is now fully involved in the firm's day-to-day operations, and since he trained under Tardieu's long-time collaborator, Philippe Cambie, don't expect any sea changes here. That said, I have sensed a lighter hand with the oak here in recent years, which I believe is for the better, especially given the fact that so many of these wines (and not just these!) are being drunk before their third or fourth birthday, especially at restaurants. I'm always amused when I hear about people having a wonderful, unexpected experience with a ten-year old or older Tardieu wine and inevitably exclaiming "it wasn't even oaky!"

Michel Tardieu told me that he purchased less than half as much wine from the north in 2008 as in 2007 but that he was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the fruit from the south. "Thanks to the mistral, no question," he explained. As of 2009 Dominique Laurent is officially no longer involved with the Tardieu-Laurent negociant project in any fashion, but he has actually been out of the picture for almost five years now. The Tardieus are in the midst of deciding on the new name for their company.
