This is a remarkable set of 2016s from Lalou Bize-Leroy. Yields are famously low here, but in 2016, frost and mildew further reduced the crop to a level that is below even that of 2012. Given the tiny production, I expected the 2016 to be even richer than they typically are. Instead, I was completely blown away by the elegance and finesse of the wines. The Leroy 2016s are striking, transparent Burgundies that pulse with energy and the expression of site that Bize-Leroy cherishes above all else. Although the highlights in this collection are many, I was especially impressed by the Pommard Les Vignots, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Narbantons, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes, Corton-Renardes Grand Cru and Richebourg Grand Cru because they have that extra touch of finesse and classiness that is the signature of what has turned out to be a magnifcient vintage at Domaine Leroy.
