According to Philippe Lecheneaut, the "upright, typical" 2008s have better balance than the previous two vintages, but all three years are quite different in style. "In 2008 we tried to hold off picking as long as we could but because we were facing a growing problem of rot we had to pick at some point," he told me. "But there was much more rot in 2007." Lecheneaut described the 2008s as a riper version of the 1998s. The malos were finished, some of them recently, when I visited in November, but the wines had not yet been racked. (Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, D.C.) Also recommended: Nuits-Saint-Georges (86).
