Thierry and Gilles Faravel are among the most consistent producers in the Southern Rhone.Their high-elevation vines enjoy a long growing season and experience more moderate diurnal temperature variation than vineyards situated lower on the slope.This means that the Bouissiere wines are typically ripe but show vibrant, fresh fruit character rather than the darker, more roasted qualities of many estates whose vines are planted at lower altitude-especially in a year like 2003.I tasted with Thierry, who is wiry and focused, like his wines."I don't like fat wine, I like mountain wine," he told me, before proceeding to show me a fabulous set of vibrant bottlings.(A Peter Vezan Selection; importers include North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley, CA; Michael Skurnik Wines, Syosset, NY; and Vintner Select, Mason, OH)
