Eric Burguet was in good spirits when I stopped by to taste the 2017s. That's certainly understandable after 2016, a very challenging growing season that decimated the crop by 70+% and meant some wines were not produced at all. Since then, Burguet and his brother, Jean-Luc, have taken a more flexible approach to sustainable farming than they did in 2016, when they followed strict biodynamic protocols. In 2017, the Burguets recorded their highest-yields ever. As for the wines, they are lovely Burgundies that capture the mid-weight style of the year and the more refined, nuanced approach the Burguet brothers have pursued since taking over from their father, Alain. This small Gevrey estate has been around too long to be considered 'under the radar' and yet I am always amazed the wines don't get more recognition.
