Winemaker Dominique Le Guen and his son were on hand to guide me through his 2022s. “It was an easy vintage with just the three-day storm in June making things complicated,” he tells me. “It was fine weather and not too hot. The harvest began on September 3, and the Premier Crus will be bottled in March or April. The alcohol levels are between 13% and 13.6%, with no acidification or chaptalization. The average yield is around 39hL/ha.” I was smitten by his Chambolle Les Cras because I prefer an edgy, more mineral-driven Chambolle. Still, readers should not overlook his commendable entry-level regional wines, particularly those from the Hautes-Côtes.
