Hudelot-Baillet might not be as well known as some of his neighbors in Chambolle-Musigny, but I have thoroughly enjoyed recent vintages. Winemaker Dominique Leguen has built a loyal following for his wines. Added to that, the construction of a spacious new cellar excavated into the hillside, I can really see this domaine gaining a higher profile in the future. "I started the harvest on 8 September in Les Charmes and Les Cras and finished 14 September," he told me. "The Les Cras has the highest level of alcohol at 14.1% but most are between 13.0% and 13.5%. As usual they are 100% de-stemmed." His 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes is outstanding, a worthy follow-up to the impressive 2017 that I also tasted during my visit. Readers should also make a beeline for his wonderful Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes.
