Two thousand seventeen looks like a tough vintage for Brovia. The Barolos are all a bit light and edgy, even within the context of the vintage. Moreover, Brovia did not bottle their Barolo Garblèt Sue', as the parcel was damaged by frost. As usual, the wines saw about 14-17 days on the skins and were aged in 30-40HL casks, starting with Slavonian oak and finishing in French oak.

"The enemy of Nebbiolo is not rain, but excess heat and drought," Alex Sánchez told me. "We left a little more fruit on the vine to help retain freshness and also bottled the Barolos with just a bit less time in oak than is our custom."
