Scott Hawley, who has consulted to numerous wineries in the region since arriving here in 2000, established Torrin in 2008 with the purchase of 30 acres of prime vineyard land from Booker’s Eric Jensen. This year he sold that plot, which adjoins the Booker Vineyard, back to Jensen tin order to buy a 70 acre plot of fallow land in the Willow Creek District where he will plant vines and build his own winery. Hawley also serves as winemaker at Law Estate, so it will come as no surprise that the Torrin wines share many attributes with the Law wines, namely deeply concentrated, full-throttle fruit character, lush texture and polished tannins. That said, I find that the Torrin wines show relatively more delicacy than the Law bottlings, which are often among the most powerful wines that I taste from Paso Robles each vintage.
