Giancarlo Pacenti's new releases are impressive. Pacenti is one of the most inquisitive, restless producers in Montalcino, and that comes through in wines that keep getting better and better. One of the recent developments here has been moving blending times up to the spring after the harvest rather than just prior to bottling, as was the case previously. Over the last few years Pacenti has worked with Bordeaux oenologist Eric Boissenot, so is not surprising to see blending times move up, but it is an interesting choice nontheless. Pacenti skipped Riservas in both 2008 and 2009. The 2010s, which I tasted from barrel, are shaping up beautifully.
