This is a very attractive set of 2019s from Red Car. I reported on the Chardonnays last year, so I will focus on the reds here. One of the challenges on the West Sonoma Coast is balancing fruit expression with the natural savoriness that comes so easily here and avoiding dominating vegetal qualities. Winemaker Earl Scheer has done a terrific job on achieving just that. The Pinots are gracious but less severe than in some previous years. There are three Syrahs, all from the estate vineyard, which results in three bottlings that are strong, but also somewhat similar in voice. Cabernet Sauvignon is not often seen on the coast, but Red Car does a terrific job with their wine from Mohrhardt.
