Aaron Pott's 2012s capture all the promise I sensed when I tasted the wines from barrel last year. As strong as the 2012s are, the 2013s are shaping up to be even better. Over the last few years quality here has been on a serious upswing. My impression is that the wines are a bit less extracted than they once were, although there is still plenty of the trademark Pott concentration and texture.

Aaron Pott's time in Bordeaux came in handy in 2011. Pott is one of the winemakers who navigated the challenges of the year with great success. His reds are rich, deep and intense, especially next to so many other wines of the vintage. The 2012s are of course racier and sexier, but there are truly no weak spots in this range.
