There’s a lot of excitement over the 2021 vintage in Montalcino. I’m still on the fence, watching the wines mature, and much of my reservation comes from tasting many Rossos last year that were simply too big and, at times, overwhelming. I’m happy that the Poggio di Sotto team was on top of this issue. The 2021 is glorious, a powerful yet graceful Rosso that should age beautifully. The decision was made to reduce maceration time down to a month, using a gentler practice to counterbalance the character of this warm and dry vintage. This decision paid off in spades. However, there will be a 10% reduction in quantity for 2021 due to hail in August.
