Since Jan Eymael joined his mother in 2002, this estate has slowly returned to the level of prominence it enjoyed when I first moved to Germany 25 years ago. Although 2005 was the best vintage I have tasted here in a long time, 2006 was an equally outstanding performance in the context of this difficult year. There is not a single poor effort in the lot and, at the high end, there are a number of excellent wines. Along with those of Rebholz and Wehrheim, this is one of the three finest collections of the vintage in the Pfalz. (Rudi Wiest/Cellars International, Carlsbad, CA) Also recommended: 2006 Chardonnay Spatlese Trocken (87), 2006 Ungsteiner Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett Trocken (85), 2006 Ungsteiner Herrenberg Riesling Spatlese Trocken (89), 2006 Ungsteiner Nussriegel Gewurztraminer Spatlese (87), 2006 Scheurebe Spatlese (86), 2006 Ungsteiner Herrenberg Scheurebe Auslese (88). Other wines tasted: 2006 Riesling Trocken.
