When I moved to Germany almost 25 years ago, Pfeffingen, known in Germany with the subtitle Fuhrmann-Eymael, was one of my favorite estates. The process of replanting their vineyards in Ungstein took some of the depth out of their wines for a number of years, but the vines are now beginning to mature. And since Jan Eymael joined his mother in 2002, this estate has gone from strength to strength, with 2005 being their finest overall vintage to date. That makes it easy for me to say that Pfeffingen is again one of my favorite estates in the Pfalz.
