"Two thousand thirteen was a warmer growing season than 2012," said James Hall, who did more crop thinning but less leaf-pulling against sunburn in 2013. A lot of Chardonnay was picked before Labor Day, he added. "Then temperatures cooled off but we finished with a bang by the last week of the month." He described his 2012s as sappy wines, the 2013s more minerally and firm. Hall ferments his Chardonnays with wild yeasts; only the Sonoma Coast and Dutton Ranch Chardonnays were filtered.
