I was impressed with the wines I tasted with Joel Peterson. His 2020s capture the intensity of a drought vintage that saw yields reduced by 30%. The Zinfandel-based wines are especially strong. The expression of place – at its essence what makes these wines so unique – is very much in evidence. Winemaking is as stripped down as it can be. The wines are fermented in old redwood vats and aged in mostly neutral oak. I did not taste three 2020s in the range as they are still in barrel; the Zinfandel and Bordeaux blend from Bedrock, plus the Sangiacomo Merlot.
