Hans-Jorg Rebholz has long been my favorite producer in the Pfalz and one of the best in Germany. Again in 2009, there was nothing mediocre here. I rated a dozen wines at 90 points or higher, three of which made it onto my lists of the finest wines of the vintage. Few other estates can match his performance with pinot blanc or chardonnay, but his rieslings and pinot noirs are also at the head of their class. Consumers may find his style a touch austere, but few German wines age as well as these. Also recommended: 2009 Muskateller Kabinett Trocken (87), 2009 Sauvignon Blanc Spatlese Trocken "S" (89), 2009 Grauer Burgunder Spatlese Trocken "S" (87), 2009 Weisser Burgunder Spatlese Trocken vom Muschelkalk "S" (86), 2009 π-no Spatlese Trocken "R" (90), 2009 Riesling Kabinett Trocken Natursprung (86), 2009 Riesling Spatlese Trocken Buntsandstein "S" (89), 2009 Riesling Spatlese Trocken Vom Rotliegenden "S" (90), 2009 Riesling Spatlese Trocken Muschelkalk "S" (90), 2009 Siebeldingen im Sonnenschein Riesling Grosses Gewachs (91), 2009 Gewurztraminer Spatlese (87), 2009 Albersweiler Latt Gewurztraminer Auslese (90), 2009 Trockenbeerenauselse Zeit & Geduld (94), 2008 Spatburgunder Spatlese Trocken Tradition (87).
