I was thoroughly impressed with the lineup of 2016 Taurasi Riservas from Mastroberardino. Each wine, from Naturalis Historia to Radici and Stilèma, over-delivered in every possible way. The 2016 vintage has shaped up to be a modern-day classic in Campania. It’s great to see this historic house taking advantage of its significant resources throughout the region. Fans of Mastroberardino have a lot to look forward to over the next twenty to even thirty years from this vintage. This report also includes updates on the 1997, 1998 and 2001 vintages of the Riserva. As for the 2018 Radici, it is a very successful wine for what was a challenging year for the region. That said, the 2018 is a pretty interpretation of Radici that will drink sooner than usual, with a much shorter lifespan as well. Beyond Taurasi, Mastroberardino offers a wide selection of Campania reds and whites. Look to the Re di More for a more modern and approachable take on Aglianico and to the Stilèma Greco and Fiano for a serious take on these two local varieties of importance.
