Launched in 2009 by Lynn and John Peterson, with old-timer Ed Kurtzman on board to make the wines, this winery deserves more attention than it receives. Working mostly with Pinot Noir from the Petersons’ estate vineyards, Peterson and Cortada Alta (Chardonnay and Syrah are relatively recent arrivals), Kurtzman has been producing juicy, expressive and fruit-driven wines that are extremely easy to enjoy when young, as is the case with these 2018s. Tannins are always reined in here, but the wines’ balance and freshness make them ageworthy as well, even in hotter vintages like 2017.
