In an interesting turn of events, one of the original, biggest opponents of Alsace’s Grand Cru systems appears to be finally accepting it. Yann Beyer told me he will likely be bottling wines with Grand Cru names in the near future, although he remains, understandably, adamant that the Grand Crus as they are today are too large. I tasted an exceptional range of wines at Beyer during my visit, with the Comtes d’Eguisheim Gewürztraminer looking to be especially noteworthy.
