Stefano Bensa, grandson of Giuseppe Bensa who founded the estate by buying vineyard land and an osteria (it was in the osteria that the estate’s wines were first sold) runs this famous FVG estate today. Over the years, La Castellada has become a recognized quality leader in FVG and is an area beacon when it comes to organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking. The wines are very concentrated and flavorful, but as they are the product of fairly long macerations on the skins, they may not tickle every wine lover’s fancy, but those who love this wine style will find La Castellada to be one of the best estates amongst the best.
