Two thousand three was the last stunning vintage I tasted from this estate. That said, 2004 and 2005 were still quite good, if not exceptional. But 2006, on the other hand, is the weakest collection of wines that I've tasted here in a long time. It is true that many estates would be tickled to be able to bottle anything of this quality, but the name Karthauserhof carries both expectations and responsibilities. The weather threw a curve ball at all producers on the Ruwer; Christoph Tyrell misjudged its spin at harvest.
