Although Karthauserhof has been making the finest wines on the Ruwer for the past five years, the last two vintages have been good to very good rather than exceptional. Sure, the weather has complicated its plans:2005 is thus better than 2004 because the estate had fewer problems in the vineyards. But it cannot measure up to 2003. Yes, there are some impressive ausleses, but the kabinetts and spatleses were even more successful at their respective quality levels. In addition, both Karlsmuhle and Schubert have upped the ante, which will put Christoph Tyrell under pressure if he wants to remain at the head of the pack.
