The rieslings from Meulenhof are often fuller-bodied than those of its neighbors and have a tendency toward slightly higher levels of residual sugar. Owner Stefan Justen is now also responsible for making the wines at the estate of Stephan Ehlen, but his own winery has rapidly risen out of anonymity over the past five vintages. The 2009 Spatlese Alte Reben from his core Treppchen vineyard was one of the Slow Food choices in my collaboration with that passionate group of educated consumers this year.
