Sisters Isabelle (the winemaker) and Céline Meyer (president) have produced many outstanding and resolutely dry wines over the years. Isabelle described 2012 as a fairly feminine vintage whose wines show balance, subtlety and finesse. By contrast, she added, 2013 was a little more complicated due to flowering issues and harvest rains. Yields were only 45 hectoliters per hectare in 2013, compared to 55 in 2012. Isabelle believes that the estate's Pinot Gris did best in 2012.
I’m a big fan of Josmeyer’s wines; for example, I think there are hardly better wines made in Alsace from the Brand and the Hengst grand crus. During my visit last summer, Josmeyer's 2012s struck me as far better than the rather dumb 2013s I tasted from cask. I look forward to revisiting the newer vintage after the wines have been bottled.
