2011 Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett

Given the fact that they have only five acres of vineyard and seldom produce more than 20,000 bottles a year, even I do not often see the rieslings of Karl-Josef Christoffel and Annekatrin Christoffel-Prum. When I do, though, I am seldom disappointed. From the dry spatlese to sumptuous auslese from their Wurzgarten site in Urzig, each wine is a gem in its own right. Few other estates still practice this old-fashioned style that ages so well. For those lucky enough to visit the estate, the current price list highlights wines dating back to the legendary 1976 vintage. Worth a detour!
