Hans-Leo Christoffel was all smiles when we tasted in July. It might not be possible to render a better collection of rieslings anywhere than he managed in his inaugural 2001 vintage in collaboration with the Monchhof's Robert Eymael, but he was confident and correct that its 2002 successor was scarcely less impressive. I had the pleasure of sampling the 2002s twice, and the notes below are based almost entirely on my December tasting. (Terry Theise) Also recommended: 2002 Erdener Treppchen.
