Helianthus, which is made by Tom Futo and his team, continues to improve. Winemaker Jason Exposto's experiments with larger format 600L Stockinger barrels and terra cotta have proven to work beautifully with the Helianthus Cabernet. It will be interesting to see where Helianthus goes under the direction of new winemaker Graham Wehmeier, but all the elements appear to be in place to ensure a bright future.

Helianthus is a new project headed by Tom Futo's daughter, Jessica, and Futo winemaker Jason Exposto. The Soda Canyon vineyard sits about 300 feet in altitude. One of the unique aspects of Helianthus is that it is aged almost exclusively in 500 and 600 liter barrels, which are unusual in Napa Valley.
