Given Fritz Hasselbach's ambassadorial skills, this estate is probably even better known abroad than it is in Germany.Everywhere I go in the world, I see his wines on retail shelves, on restaurant lists and in collectors' cellars. Now his son Johannes, vintage 1979, has begun working at the estate and will gradually take on more responsibility.Warmer vintages like 2009 and now again 2011 generally play well for the house style, which tends to be rich and unctuous.Whatever the reason, though, the entry-level wines here in '11 are better than anything I have tasted in recent memory.Experience tells me that they also have the wherewithal to age well. Also recommended: 2011 Riesling Trocken (85), 2011 Nierstein Riesling Trocken (87), 2011 Nackenheim Riesling Trocken (87), 2011 Niersteiner Pettenthal Riesling Grosses Gewachs (88), 2011 Riesling Kabinett Feinherb Jean Baptiste (86), 2011 Nackenheimer Rothenberg Riesling Auslese (90+?).
