Anyone who does not know Fritz Hasselbach is not truly interested in German wine. Along with Ernie Loosen, he has done more to advance the cause of riesling abroad than the rest of the producers in Rheinhessen lumped together. He was once at the forefront of quality as well, but I've been a touch critical about his consistency over the past few years. Two thousand nine, the best vintage I have tasted here in quite a while, puts that criticism definitively to rest-and I have yet to see the stickies from this vintage, which he generally releases a year later.
