The influence of Peter Bell, Fox Run’s longtime winemaker, is seen in the number of winemakers he has trained or worked with throughout the Finger Lakes. Still, Bell always been a contrarian. ”There’s no terroir around here,” he said, adding: “I’m going to say I’m also not on board with the idea of ‘minimal intervention.’” Fox Run makes a wide range of wines, including experiments with hybrid grapes and Bell’s latest passion project, port-style dessert wines. But the Riesling here is still king. Producing 20,000 cases per year, Fox Run is of significant size for the Finger Lakes, and has one of the most popular tasting rooms in the region.
