Under the watch of longtime winemaker Jordan Fiorentini, Epoch quickly emerged as one of the best and most consistent wineries in California, and it has, if anything, been getting even better. Owners Liz and Bill Armstrong have given Fiorentini carte blanche to do whatever it takes to make outstanding wines. This is on full display from the immaculately farmed vineyards, which now include some 165 acres of planted vines, to the minimalist winery that houses state-of-the art equipment and aging vessels. There is no rush to get wines into the market, meaning that offerings might include multiple vintages, depending on Fiorentini’s take on each bottling’s evolution and potential. While these wines can be counted on to be full-flavored and well-concentrated, they additionally show superb balance and detail. These wines drink extremely well on the young side and hold up well after being open, for several days in fact.
