The Fallers picked their 2006 crop in three weeks flat, whereas normally they take four to six weeks, explained Laurence Faller. She described 2007 as "the perfect compromise between 2005 and 2002: the wines show the clarity of 2005 with more size and richness, but not to the point of 2002, and with less obvious botrytis character than 2002. The wines have fat but also great focus." The sugar/acid balance of many of Faller's '07s struck me as nearly perfect. Wines meant to be dry are indeed dry, but they avoid giving an impression of hardness. As always, my marathon tasting here concluded with a progression of Faller's superb late-harvest wines, and as I tasted this year's collection of examples I found myself wishing that more subscribers could experience these bottles. By the way, although they are indeed pricey, they do exist in the marketplace.
