Winemaker Anne Morey was in typically garrulous form when I visited the winery in Meursault. She told me that she began picking on August 31, the third time she has commenced in that month, and restricted the maceration to a maximum of one pigeage per day, and sometimes none. “The fruit was just black, so I did an infusion for the first time,” she explained. “It was unbelievable.” I did find this range trickier to taste due to some reduction on a few of the prepared samples. Also, note that Morey did not show the Bâtard-Montrachet on my visit. These wines are closed under natural cork.
