It's great to see Pierre Damoy back to his normal self after a period of illness. Damoy was quite philosophical in discussing 2012, a year in which his production is down 50-60% across the board. As for the wines, they are terrific. These are big, structured Burgundies - especially at the high end - and are clearly built for the cellar. Stylistically, the 2012s are even deeper and inkier than they usually are, but at the same time, the wines have tremendous structure and the tannic clout to age well for years. If anything, the 2012s are going to require serious patience. Damoy vinified most of the wines with about 30% whole clusters and did far more pump overs than punch downs. The malos were quite late, which explains why some of the wines were quite raw and unfinished at the time of my fall 2013 tastings.
