The wines from this 13-hectare domain have been steadily increasing in consistency and quality over the last decade and at the top end of the range are showing far better fruit/oak balance than they did in the early 2000s. There's still an oak presence in the La Côte Ronde and Juline, to be sure, but it plays in harmony with the lush, expressive fruit that this estate's wines have always displayed. Those who enjoy drinking their Châteauneufs young and fruity will find plenty to like here, but the wines also possess the concentration to ensure a positive cellaring experience.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the harmonious character of the new and upcoming releases at this domain, especially by how well the oak and fruit played together in wines across the range. In the past I found too many of the Autard wines, especially the top-end Juline bottling, to lean a bit too heavily on the lumber in spite of their impressive fruit concentration. That was far less in evidence when I tasted the '13s and '12s and I take that as an encouraging sign.
