Nicolas Faure is a small grower that I introduced on Vinous in last year’s report. Based in the village of Meuilley up in the Hautes-Côtes with his "better half," Amélie Berthaut, and their infant, he has half a dozen cuvées that are well worth seeking out. "I started picking on August 19, finishing with the Bourgogne Aligoté on September 5," he told me in his cozy cellar. "I think 2020 will be of good general quality, maybe better than 2019 and 2018. You have the ripeness of 2018 but the acidity of 2019." We then began talking about old claret, something that does not often happen in these parts.
