Pascal Mugneret has taken this Vosne-based Domaine to new heights in recent years. He is in the same category as Domaines Simon Bize and Chandon des Briailles since he incorporates 100% stems in all his cuvées except just two (see tasting notes). As I told him after our tasting, since he always likes feedback, he has a deft touch with their use. Invisible hands, they discretely shape the wine rather than dictating it or obscuring terroirs. That’s the litmus test of a clever winemaker. He told me that he commenced the harvest on August 31 and that low cellar temperatures and humidity mean that the wines evolve more slowly. His set of 2022s is crowned by wonderful Nuits Saint-Georges Les Richemones and Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes and a brilliant Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlée. They are imbued with wonderful transparency and a sense of nascent energy, often with an unerring ability to mature in bottle over a number of years.
