From his 12 hectares of vines, mostly in Crozes-Hermitage, Florent Viale produces a small range of consistently excellent wines that have a loyal following in the region and are present in many, if not most, of the best local restaurants and wine shops. The style here is clean, balanced and elegant, made with up to a third of whole clusters and well-judged oak, but not in an overly modern fashion. While they show extremely well soon after release (often poured by the glass in restaurants), these are age-worthy wines, assuming one has the patience or cellar space.
