While this domaine’s wines have been of high quality since the late 1990s,the wines have stepped up several notches since the arrival of sisters Veronique and Caroline Meret in 2017 and 2014 respectively. The Meret sisters slowly began taking the reins at their family’s estate and 29.5 hectares of vineyards, 17.5 of them in prime Châteauneuf-du-Pape sites. The sisters are now fully in charge but continue to work with their parents, Mireille and Michel. Today, the estate’s four different Châteauneufs are consistently in the upper tier of the appellation, with the “basic” bottling now among the best, not to mention one of the top values in that category. Even in a rich year like 2016, the wines show power but with a distinctly elegant streak, with assertive bouquets, bright fruit and well-knit tannins. Farming here has long been organic, and the winemaking, overseen by Veronique Meret, is done with a light hand, which includes raising the wines large-format oak tronconic tanks and 600-litre demi-muids and bottling without fining or filtration.
