“It was warm and humid,” winemaker Thomas Collardot told me at his winery in Flagey-Echézeaux when I asked about the 2023 growing season. “I started the picking on September 13. We did more rigorous sorting this year and cropped at 47 to 48 hl/ha for the Grand Crus and around 55 hl/ha for the Premier Crus. We use around 15% whole bunch across the range. The Grand Crus see around 50% new oak and 30% for the Premier Crus. The wines have big shoulders, so they will be bottled around March or April.”
