“There was a lot of frost complicated by the rain,” the eternally-ebullient Thomas Collardot tells me in this cuverie in Gilly, close to the church. “I used candles in Echézeaux and Grands Echézeaux, but they were not effective. I pruned late in Morey-Saint-Denis on 15 March…but it still didn’t make much difference. We are 50% down in Village and Premier Cru and 33% in Grand Cru. I only picked 140kg of the Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, so this blended into the Village. I did the same fermentation and maceration as in other years, using 10% to 15% stems for the cuvées except for the Bourgogne Rouge. I will bottle the wines next March.”
