As if there weren't already enough Moreys in Chassagne, Bernard Morey has now split up the family domain between his two sons, Thomas and Vincent. Complicating matters, most of the family's parcels were divvied up by the brothers, but the smaller pieces of land (e.g., Chassagne-Montrachet Vide Bourse, Caillerets and Dents de Chien) went to one son or the other. So my coverage of wines under Bernard's control is limited to his small collection of 2007 negociant bottlings and the 2006 domain wines (see my coverage of the 2007s of Thomas and Vincent later in this issue). "Too many people picked too early in 2007," said Bernard, "and thus this is an average vintage, on the whole." Regarding his own offerings, Morey compares 2007 to 2002, "especially for the later-picked stuff, which is denser." (Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; Louis/Dressner Selections, New York, NY) Also recommended: Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes (86).
