According to Jean-Pierre Dirler, as much as eight inches of rain fell during the 2004 harvest, resulting in a combination of grey and noble rot. This was tricky for the pinots, but Dirler believes that 2004 is an excellent year for riesling, sylvaner and muscat. And no chaptalization was necessary in 2004 (or 2005).
