Winemakers Claire Darnaud and Jacques Grange believe the 2016 white wines here possess great potential for cellaring and, based on the wines’ balance, they suspect that they might even age as long as the powerful, deeply concentrated 2015s. “They aren’t as dramatic as the ‘15s,” Darnaud told me, “but they have excellent concentration and finesse so they might surprise as they mature.” She pointed out that warmer vintages make richer wines, of course, but “it’s often the more delicate years that age gracefully while the bigger, riper vintages can come apart, like 2003.”
