This is another terrific set of wines from Davide Carlone, a producer who remains very much under the radar. The Croatina is a gorgeous red from 80-100 year-old vines, while the Boca offers a very classic expression of the appellation. The vintages of those wines in this article aren't necessarily the strongest, but the purity and sincerity of the wines comes through just the same. Carlone remains one of the most promising artisan growers in Alto Piemonte.

I was deeply impressed with these wines from Davide Carlone, a small artisan grower based in Boca. Carlone's Boca is a classic Nebbiolo/Vespolina aged in cask. The Croatina, which emerges from old vines that are on average 80 years old (and up to 100 years old in some spots) is perhaps even more distinctive. Non interventionalist farming and an equally hands off approach in the cellar are two of the choices that inform these fine, hand crafted wines. Make a note of Davide Carlone. These wines will become super hot as soon as consumers start to discover them.
