Thierry Sabon produces Châteauneuf-du-Papes that are elegant, even understated, but his 2016s are, as might be expected, deeper and richer than what one typically finds at this estate. They certainly don’t lack for precision or energy – far from it. Sabon said that he thinks his ‘16s “should age along the lines of 2009, but probably longer because they have tannins that are stronger. Not like 2010. but enough to give the wines more backbone than the ‘09s.”
