Francois Labet began using cover crop in his Clos Vougeot holdings in 2009 and credits this technique with protecting his vines from rot in 2010. Virtually no sorting was required at harvest time, in spite of the fact that he picked on the late side, from September 26 through 28. Virtually all the fruit was affected by millerandage, noted Labet, which partly explains the creaminess of these wines. Labet will offer a tiny quantity of a special Clos Vougeot Vieilles Vignes Homage a Jean Morin from the 2010 vintage (this new cuvee may become a regular event), and this wine may prove to be controversial.
